Janet has worked with the Australian Principals Centre Ltd and its new owners the Australian Council for Educational Research in the delivery of a range of conferences for school leaders.”

“The first thing that is immediately apparent is Janet’s professionalism and her sincerity. She has a keen understanding of the needs of people in positions of responsibility and is always able to offer constructive and helpful programs for conference participants … We find her incredibly quick on the uptake and sensational to deal with. She is astute in reading an audience and creative in suggesting the sorts of services required.

Janet is an excellent presenter. She was able to easily involve the staff of 140 adults of varying backgrounds and ages in a way that was inclusive. I felt that she helped create a wonderful feeling of community through action and reflection.

Having Janet formally introduce Mindfulness Meditation to Bentleigh Secondary College four years ago has inspired us to incorporate its practices into our school curriculum across all year levels.

The college has purpose built a Mindfulness Meditation and Indigenous Centre with the generous support of our broader community, and we have adopted the Positive Schools model as our educational practice.

Janet is truly our MM mentor, and we are constantly inspired by her passion, professionalism and capacity to instruct and teach all students and staff members in the matter of Mindfulness and the links with managing anxiety, stress and ultimately, improved student learning outcomes. Her sessions are practical and engaging. She is an inspiration.

Janet Etty-Leal is working with Beyond the School Gates (a DEECD extended school hub) to address the barriers to social inclusion faced by young people with intellectual disabilities and learning differences.  The young people with intellectual disabilities that Janet works with love her sessions, appreciating the opportunities she gives them to touch, feel, move and reflect.  Janet’s Mindful practices are helping our young people to develop self-knowledge, resilience and independence.

Emma MestitzManagerBeyond the School Gates

I have to say Janet Etty-Leal has been one of the most enduring and delightful people I have had the pleasure of working with over the past few years. I have worked with Janet on Mindfulness projects in schools, have attended one of her daylong wonderful workshops in Kew and have facilitated one of her workshops for members of the Student Wellbeing Network for Casey and Cardinia. I have always been very happy to promote the wonderful work she does. Janet’s presence alone is like a mindfulness capsule. I use Janet’s capsules in my personal and professional life, as well as encouraging schools to take up her training in order to promote positive mental health in young people and teachers.

“Janet is an absolutely amazing meditation and mindfulness consultant. She has made an admirable contribution through her Meditation Capsules book, training of teachers and mindfulness activities with students of various age groups. There is a wide range of mindfulness activities in the ten meditation capsules that teachers and students can choose from to raise the level of mindfulness disposition. Many of my Year 7 & 8 students have benefitted from our Mindfulness program, made possible by Janet’s inspiring work. Our study of this program has shown that students become calmer just after every session and throughout each week. They are less fearful, angry and nervous. These results from our study were recently presented in Los Angeles in the 3rd World Congress on Positive Psychology, organised by the International Positive Psychology Association”.

“Janet Etty-Leal delivered a half-day professional learning session on Mindfulness to all staff in a Catholic girls’ school at the start of 2014.  Staff responded positively and took away key learnings to apply to their classroom practices as well as their own lives. Her visual aids impressed us all. Very powerful, practical professional learning. We are grateful to Janet for sharing her wisdom and expertise with us”.

Introductory session with staff was  wonderful, so informative about the benefits of Mindfulness and we were all very comfortable about introducing Janet to the students as we realised the benefits they would gain just by being around Janet  –   how right we were!

Students were always so engaged during the sessions  – who would think a sultana could sound and taste so great ……..

Our students on the autism spectrum have Mindfulness strategies to reduce anxiety levels and relax

Our sessions with Janet have reinforced our focus on respect for all and because the sessions are so interactive each student is given the opportunity to contribute

Students listening and observational  skills have been heightened through the Mindfulness sessions. The continuity and structure of the sessions suited our students, routines to follow are very important for them also being made aware of what they are learning.

Janet Etty Leal is an inspiring and creative mindful meditation teacher. Over the past three and a half years, MLC has engaged Janet to work with training teachers, teaching students from Prep to Year 12 and running mindfulness workshops for parents and children together. Janet has been very flexible in her approach and tailored her presentations to suit our requirements. However it is Janet’s joy and passion in bringing mindful meditation into the lives of as many children and adults as possible that I value most about her work at MLC.

Janet has an enduring interest in the ways stress and relaxation act on our bodies and minds. She is also a dedicated specialist teacher of young children. Her workshops showcase an array of techniques and knowledge to help those who work with children to teach them how to manage their energy and emotions. I particularly enjoyed her use of props, which concretises the concepts she is teaching and so is compelling for children. I also liked the way she uses and unpacks language to show us the wisdom of mindfulness.  After attending Janet’s ‘Creative approaches to Mindfulness for Children’ I feel confident to use some of these techniques in my own work.

Janet’s humble and engaging teachings offer delightful and wholesome wisdom that connects us all to the power of the inner guru/teacher and the wonder of the authentic, dynamic and creative self present within all beings. Mindfulness is a tool of discovery and connection that is vital to all children’s capacity for learning success and potential to achieve personal greatness. I hope these teachings intensify and infiltrate all classrooms in pursuit of wellness, excellence and brilliance for all children regardless of intellect, gender, class, race or creed with hopeful expansion on a local, national and global scale.

I found the Workshop not only hugely informative but inspiring both from a teaching point of view and personal practice.  The teaching comes from the heart and brings a sense of the joy that working with children can bring.

“Janet Etty-Leal’s warm personable manner, matched with her passion and knowledge in the area of Mindfulness, guarantee her presentations to be a most rewarding experience.  Janet expertly blends relevant theory, insights and practice in a highly engaging atmosphere. We have had Janet visit our school to run workshops both with staff and parents and the reception has been overwhelmingly positive in all regards.”

I’ve been teaching for 15 years and have attended many talks, conferences and workshops.  I cannot think of another session that was so accessible, relevant, inspiring and re-affirming about the positive changes that a teacher can bring about in her students.  Once again, I am reminded that it is a privilege and an honour to be a teacher.  Thankyou Janet – I look forward to learning more from you in the future!

“With Janet’s help, our now 8-year-old has developed a positive daily meditation practice.  Janet and her Capsules were the light at the end of what seemed like a very long and dark tunnel!  After years of behavioural problems, including significant anger and daily tantrums due to past traumatic experiences, he is now a much calmer, happier, tantrum-free little boy. He can now recognise his negative feelings before they take over, and is using his breathing and calming techniques throughout the day to make better decisions. Our research into the effects of trauma on childrens’ developing brains led us to try meditation as a way of reducing hyper-active and negative behaviour. Our expectations have been exceeded on all fronts and although it can be a challenge to establish the meditation practice in the beginning it’s our experience that effort certainly pays off.”

Janet has been central to the development and implementation of our Mindfulness program at Kingswood College over the last three years, and her positive relationships with our staff and students have been invaluable to our progress. Her support for our holistic education of the mind, body, heart and spirit has been wonderful!

This was a stimulating, creative and well- resourced workshop. Janet is an inspiring and creative presenter. Her contagious energy and enthusiasm made the day very enjoyable for everyone who attended. Janet is very generous with her knowledge, resources and hints for how to teach Mindfulness to children. I would highly recommend this workshop to anyone working with or just loving children.
